    Intellectual Freedom

    The school library media program at HCS will play a major role in the promotion of intellectual freedom and support of a student’s First Amendment rights. The library program will serve as a point of voluntary access and offer opportunities for all students to learn in an atmosphere of free inquiry. The school libraries of HCS subscribe to/follow the principles set forth in (1) the ALA’s Library Bill of Rights and its interpretation for school libraries, including the Access to Resources and Services in the School Library Media Program(2) NYLA’s exceptional models of policies and procedures for School Libraries , (3) the NYS Digital Literacy standards and Skills Sets, and (4) the NCTE’s statement of Students’ Right To Read
